Wiring doesn’t last forever. Although we don’t see electricity moving along cables, it does cause damage over time.
If your property was built or rewired since 1970, the chances are it was wired using PVC/PVC cabling. If subsequent work to the electrical system is carried out by a qualified and experienced electrician and regular testing is carried out to ensure the installation is safe, the installation ‘should’ be okay for continued use.
If your property was built and wired BEFORE 1966, it is strongly recommended that you have it rewired. PVC cable is generally guaranteed for a service life of 25 years. After 50 years of use, however, it really should be changed.
Partial rewires can be undertaken if it can be ascertained that some circuits are newer.
If you are unsure of the condition of your wiring, please take a look at our Electrical Safety Testing page for more information.
Rewiring a typical 3 bedroomed property usually takes around one week to complete. Our prices include re-plastering chases, so all that’s required on completion is redecoration.
A typical rewire includes; New Consumer Unit, Earth Bonding, 25x Power Outlets, 10x Lighting Points & Switches, Smoke Detectors
